Welcome back! Romantic Jazz with Swingfish on October 25, 2013 from 6-9 pm.
Swingfish is Northern California’s premier “chamber swing” trio—three master musicians celebrating the romance of the Great American Songbook. Hailed by Washington DC bandleader and jazz historian Tom Cunningham as “one of the greatest living big band rhythm guitarists, with a right hand like a steam hammer,” Scott Foster leads the trio with a broad repertoire of smoky vocals.
David Schrader, on tenor sax, is a founding member of the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet and brings a dynamic to the band unique in small jazz ensembles. Whether out front in a broad romantic solo or sliding into delicate fills to complement a vocalist, David shows a mastery of technique rare among jazz sidemen.
On double bass, Tom Shader is the North Bay’s first call bassist and has played with dozens of national touring artists such as Henri Mancini, Dinah Shore, Steve Lawrence, and Grover Washington, Jr. His multi-dimensional technique provides the foundation for each song and produces electrifying solos that will turn your head. Join us for an evening of small ensemble swing, that special jazz that brings romance to every occasion.
